Recycling Council of BC
Project Type: Website
Challenge
The Recycling Council of British Columbia (RCBC) is Canada’s longest-standing recycling council, and was facing a number of problems with their old web site. The information was not up to date, it was expensive to maintain as the majority of updates required technical assistance and the website was not supporting RCBC in its key goal of finding innovative ways to eliminate waste and decrease British Columbia's environmental footprint.
Goals & Objectives
- Find innovative ways to eliminate waste and decrease British Columbia's environmental footprint.
- Enable non-technical people to easily update the web site.
- Update the design of the site with a new look and feel.
Results
- Engagement - over 4,000 members of the general public go to the web site each month to find out how and where they can recycle products.
- Easy to update - non technical people are able to login and easily update content and manage the site effectively.
Testimonial
“The Recycling Council of British Columbia selected Tidal Multimedia for our website redevelopment project in a very competitive RFP process. Out of 8 bids received, Tidal Multimedia brought to the table their enthusiasm and dedication to our project and offered the best value for our investment.
Throughout the duration of the project, Tidal Multimedia responded timely to all requests with either the completion of a task or giving a projected completion date to a specific request. The project was managed very well with regular in-person project status meetings and electronic and phone correspondence. We felt that we were all on the same page at all times.
I would rate our working relationship with Tidal Multimedia through the duration of the project as exceptional. They are trustworthy and acted in good-faith with us. We were not merely a ‘client’ but they acted as an invested partner with our organization.
We are absolutely delighted with the end product. The website and content management system that Tidal Multimedia developed for us is a hundred times better than our previous web presence.
As we are a member-based non-profit organization, we received email correspondence from our members the month that we launched expressing their satisfaction of our new website. We also received great feedback from the general public with our newly launched searchable database, saying that it’s so much easier to find information they are looking for. Companies and organizations that offer recycling services constantly inquire how they can get listed on our Recyclepedia.
Our main goals for the project included rebranding of the website, implementing an on-line searchable database for recycling services, implementing a content management system, improving usability and increasing traffic.
Tidal Multimedia emphasized the need for measurable goals to quantify the success of the project. Since the launch of our website in December 2008, our site has received over 84,000 visits. Traffic has consistently increased each month. One of the aims of the website is to provide easier access to all recycling and waste reduction information we provide. The education section on our website is consistently the most visited section of the our website.
Our online searchable database, Recyclepedia, has received praise from the general public and our local government partners. It receives an average of 4,000 searches a month. It has complimented a great deal our live-person Recycling Hotline service. We have been able to reach more people with the Recyclepedia.
The content management system Tidal Implemented also increased productivity and efficiency in managing the website. It has become easier for our staff to manage the large amount of information that we publish.
After completion of the project, we have continued our relationship with Tidal Multimedia assisting us with the maintenance of our website along with other small projects. ”
